Prepare for an exciting transformation in the world of reality TV! Season 29 of 'The Voice' is set to amp up its game by expanding to a two-hour timeslot every week, airing from 9 PM to 11 PM starting February 23. This significant change means fans of NBC’s beloved singing competition will enjoy more thrilling performances and intense rivalries. However, this expansion leads to a shift for 'Brilliant Minds,' which has now been postponed to later in the spring or even summer, according to NBC's announcement this Wednesday.
This season brings back the dynamic trio of judges: Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine, who are reuniting for the first time since Season 16, promising fans a nostalgic yet fresh experience.
But here's where things get really intriguing: Season 29 is introducing a revamped format designed to heighten the excitement. The network has hinted that this new approach will be enriched with rapid, competitive elements inspired by major NBC Sports events like Super Bowl LX, the Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games, and the NBA All-Star Game, all taking place this month.
Fans can look forward to four distinct rounds in which the coaches will face off in what they’re calling a "Triple Turn Competition." In this format, the competition intensifies as they vie for the most three-chair turns—an achievement that grants the winning coach a valuable advantage in the subsequent round. The coach who secures the highest number of three-chair turns will gain an exclusive "Super Steal" during the battle rounds. This powerful advantage can only be utilized once and guarantees a victory against any other coach attempting to make a steal.
During the knockout stages, each coach will invite back two fan-favorite contestants from their previous teams to compete in an "In-Season All-Star Competition." The coach who triumphs in the most sing-offs will secure an additional finalist spot in the grand finale, with the original coach CeeLo Green stepping in to determine the ultimate winner.
As for the semifinal and finale week, it will kick off with a Top 9 semifinal and culminate in an exciting Top 4 finale. For the first time, a new voting block made up of super fans and former contestants will join the mix, adding another layer of intrigue to the voting process. Each coach will also begin the season with a team of ten talented artists.
In its previous run, Season 28, featuring coaches Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire, attracted over 30 million viewers across various platforms, according to data from NBC and Nielsen. The talented Aiden Ross was crowned the champion of this season in December.
'The Voice' is produced by MGM Television and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, a division of Warner Bros. Television, along with ITV Studios The Voice USA, Inc. The show was created by John de Mol, who serves as an executive producer alongside Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson, Adam H. Sher, and Barry Poznick.
