Ricky Cabrera ranks as the #20 prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization!
The vote for the final spot in this year’s Community Prospect Rankings was tightly contested, with both Ricky Cabrera and Mason Neville leading at times. When the voting window closed at the moment I set, Cabrera held a six-vote lead for the #20 position on the list.
A quick look at Cabrera’s 2025 stats might leave a casual observer puzzled about how he earned that rank. His season was rough, hitting just .187/.276/.240 over 21 games for High-A Dayton before a knee injury ended his year. Yet he isn’t far removed from a strong 2024 campaign that placed him among the Florida State League’s top performers for a pitcher-friendly circuit: 11 home runs (9th), 22 doubles (tied for 4th), and 102 hits (3rd). All of this came when he was only 19 years old, and he also swiped 19 bases.
April 2025 in Dayton marked his first exposure to playing baseball in cold weather, as the Venezuela native had spent his pro career previously in the Dominican Summer League, the Arizona Complex League, and with Daytona Beach in Florida. In short, he didn’t even get a full season in before the weather and other factors challenged him.
Cabrera carries potential plus power and plus speed—at least before the knee injury. Realistically, 2026 will be a critical year for him to translate that raw upside into performance that justifies his talent. If he can do that, there remains a credible path for Cabrera to develop into a bat-first third baseman with enough ability to reach the major leagues.
He secures the #20 spot in this year’s CPR and earns the final position on the list.
