New Footage Reveals Full Story Behind Police Altercation with Town Hall Protester (2026)

A recently released video provides crucial insights into the initial moments of a confrontation involving police officers and a protester at a Town Hall demonstration.

Just 55 minutes ago on February 11, 2026, at 6:29 AM, ABC NEWS Verify presented new footage that captures the full minute leading up to an incident where a man dressed in a white business shirt was repeatedly struck by officers from the New South Wales (NSW) Police during a protest opposing Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

While a shorter clip circulating on social media, shared by Greens senator David Shoebridge, gained significant attention on Monday, it failed to include the beginning of the altercation and the essential context surrounding the events.

The newly released footage, provided to ABC NEWS Verify by a protester named James, depicts a scene on the east side of George Street, directly opposite Town Hall, where the man was situated among a large crowd of demonstrators. The atmosphere was tense as both the crowd and nearby police observed another confrontation unfolding between law enforcement and a different protester.

At the 1:07 mark in the video, a verbal exchange appears to occur between a bicycle patrol officer and the man in the white shirt, which seems to be triggered when the officer reaches for someone next to him. The subsequent actions are somewhat ambiguous, but the bike officer then pushes the man, who seems to respond by attempting to grab the officer's bicycle. In a reaction that suggests he is trying to de-escalate the situation, the white-shirted man raises his hands.

However, the situation escalates quickly as the bike squad officer seizes the man's shirt, appearing to stumble over his bicycle. This moment of distraction opens the door for two other officers to join in, and they begin to punch the man repeatedly.

James, who stood nearby and recorded the events, described the experience as disturbing. "I witnessed him get pushed. He was sort of drawn into an officer who then tripped over his bike, and then police just laid into him. It was really alarming," he recounted.

In response to the backlash regarding the use of force, the NSW Premier and senior police officials have defended the actions of the officers, denying accusations of employing excessive force amidst the chaotic encounters between law enforcement and protesters during this demonstration. Ultimately, twenty-seven individuals were taken into custody, with ten of them charged for assaulting police officers. Additionally, nine protesters now face formal charges as a result of these confrontations.
