With this win, the Mavericks improved their record to 15-25, breaking a two-game losing streak. Klay Thompson also made his presence felt, coming off the bench to score 18 points and matching his season-best with six successful three-pointers.
On the other side, Michael Porter Jr. had a standout performance for the Nets (11-26), scoring 28 points, while Day'Ron Sharpe made a notable impact off the bench with 14 points and 12 rebounds. However, the Nets have now faced defeat in four consecutive games, struggling after a close 103-98 loss to Memphis just a day prior.
Despite facing a challenging second half where they trailed by as much as 14 points, the Nets managed to narrow the gap to 99-95 with five minutes remaining. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't close the distance any further. Flagg's performance was particularly impressive given he had struggled in the previous game against Chicago, where he scored only 11 points on 4 of 13 shooting.
For the Mavericks, Jaden Hardy stepped up in his second starting appearance of the season, scoring 14 points, with 11 of those coming in the first five minutes, including three out of four successful three-point attempts.
It's worth noting that the Mavericks were severely impacted by injuries, utilizing three players on two-way contracts as they played without four starting players. This group included Anthony Davis, who is sidelined indefinitely due to ligament damage in his left hand, and P.J. Washington Jr., who missed his third consecutive game because of an ankle injury.
Porter returned to action after missing Sunday’s game, but the Nets were without Cam Thomas and Egor Nemin, both being rested after participating in Sunday’s match.
In a previous encounter between these teams on December 12, the Mavericks had a thrilling game that featured 23 lead changes and 16 ties. In contrast, Monday’s battle saw only one lead change and one tie, showcasing the Mavericks' control over the game.
Looking ahead, the Nets will face off against New Orleans on Wednesday, while the Mavericks are set to host Denver on the same day.
